Mogosoaia
Brancoveanu's Palace and Garden
20 km from Bucharest, the Brancoveanu palace and museum is opened for the public, and the palace garden is one of the nicest places arround the capital, an island of green and silence.
Do not miss the terass by the lake shore, where you can lay in the sun, and the back garden, perfect for a picnic and a badminton game.
Short history
In year 1702 on the Mogosoaia lake shore the Brancoveanu Palace is finalized. The Palace mixes elements of bizantin architecture and decorations with italian renessace and Muntenia specific elements. After the execution of Brancoveanu (together with the five sons) to Istambul, for refusing to become muslims, the palace becomes for a short period a turcish inn and the architecture has to suffer from the otoman raids in the 18th century. In the 19th century the estate is bought by the Bibescu family, descendants of the Brancoveanu family.
